This includes support for Scope 3 emissions targets, with a food sustainability strategy focused on reducing carbon emissions, minimising food waste, and promoting responsible purchasing.
As part of this approach, ISS is a member of the World Resources Institute and offers Coolfood-certified low carbon meals, which produce 38% lower carbon emissions than the average meal. Our menus include multiple Coolfood-accredited options each week.
In the Nordics, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel reflects ISS’s commitment to sustainable food services. By meeting its strict criteria, we support responsible sourcing and operations that help customers meet their own sustainability goals.

From reducing food waste through AI-powered technology to promoting responsible sourcing and reusable packaging, ISS is helping organisations build more sustainable food service practices. Through our partnership with Winnow, we have reduced food waste by 46% and saved €6.5 million as of 2025 by using data-driven insights to optimise recipes, portion sizes, and purchasing decisions. Alongside plant-forward menus, circular culinary practices, and reusable packaging initiatives, these efforts demonstrate how small operational changes can create measurable impact for both people and the planet.
The recipe for workplace engagement
As hybrid work continues to evolve, food experiences are playing a key role in bringing people back together at the workplace. Our Evolving Workplaces report found that over eight in ten employees now work in hybrid models, while more than half say spending time with colleagues is the biggest advantage of coming to the office. The research also revealed that food experiences are the strongest motivator encouraging employees to return more regularly. Through curated dining experiences, workplace pop-ups, and collaborative food events, ISS is helping organisations create spaces that foster connection, collaboration, and a stronger sense of community at work.
Leading the way to a plastic-free future
ISS is driving meaningful change towards a more sustainable future through initiatives focused on reducing plastic waste and promoting circular practices. With the launch of the first plastic-free company restaurant in the Netherlands under “Operation 100% Plastic-Free,” ISS successfully reduced plastic usage by 1,200 kilos — equivalent to eliminating approximately 380,000 pieces of plastic waste annually. Developed as a scalable model, the initiative highlights how innovative workplace solutions can significantly reduce environmental impact while setting new benchmarks for sustainable dining and responsible operations.
