ISS wins Business Charity Award

ISS wins Business Charity Award
18-06-2014

ISS UK won the respected Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team award at the Business Charity Awards in May. The award celebrates the ISS CSR achievements across a range of areas to include community investment of over £1.7 million for established charities, alongside employability initiatives and working with the young.
The award, made by Third Sector magazine, recognises a corporate responsibility team that has increased the charitable or socially responsible activities of the business. The award highlights ISS CSR team initiatives with apprenticeship and work inspiration programmes to support youth employability, support for the ISS current corporate charity - The British Heart Foundation. The award also underscores staff volunteering in company time and focussed on how success was achieved and measured, plus the impacts on local communities.

The ISS Work Inspiration initiative will provide 1,000 work experience places for school students by the end of 2015. As part of the youth and employability programme, the ISS Apprentice Academy was launched in 2013 by Richard Sykes, ISS UK and Ireland CEO. This led a sector-wide initiative across the Facilities Management sector. Such ventures also helped ISS gain a 3-star rating in the Business In the Community (BITC) CR Index in April 2014.

Richard Sykes, Country Manager of ISS UK and Ireland commented:
– I’m incredibly proud of our CSR team.  This prestigious award is recognition of how we as an organisation aim to support our communities. We strongly believe that the long term success of our company depends on the balance of social, environmental and economic aspects of our business. Being an integral part of our business strategy, our community strategy focuses around young people and employability skills, health and social welfare.

Steve Workman, Corporate Responsibility Director at ISS UK concluded:
– Community involvement programmes are strongly linked to ISS’s vision to be the world’s greatest service organisation and result in more engaged and motivated employees and an enhanced customer experience. Technically, we’re a three person CR team comprising myself, Su Pickerill and Sarah Hale.  In reality, we have the full weight of the organisation behind us – from individual contributors, to full CEO and board support. And of course our incredible partners.
